This month, Capstone Hospice is honored to recognize Alethea Jacobus as our Hero of the Month. Alethea’s journey into hospice care is deeply personal and rooted in faith, compassion, and a profound sense of purpose.
Alethea describes her calling to hospice as something only God could have orchestrated. While she was a stay-at-home mom, she visited her best friend’s father in a South Carolina hospital, where he had been admitted to inpatient hospice. As she prayed for him before his defibrillator was deactivated, she experienced a moment that changed her life. She describes it as standing on holy ground—an overwhelming sense of God’s presence and love in that sacred space. That feeling has never left her. To this day, each patient visit carries the same reverence. For Alethea, every encounter is an opportunity to witness and reflect God’s love during one of life’s most tender transitions.
At Capstone, Alethea has found a workplace that feels like home. She treasures the culture and the people, describing the team as family. She values that everyone understands the mission and is always ready to step in and help. Even on difficult days, she knows she is supported and never alone. That shared commitment to compassion and excellence is what makes her proud to serve alongside her colleagues.
Outside of work, Alethea embraces life with joy and adventure. She loves traveling and is looking forward to visiting new countries this year. In the kitchen, she enjoys cooking Indonesian food, sharing flavors and traditions with her family. Playing the piano offers her quick, meaningful stress relief, while regular foot massages help her recharge. Most of all, she cherishes spending time with her children—often in the most memorable way possible, like enjoying Korean BBQ together at midnight.
Alethea has requested that her monetary award be directed to Ms. Martine.
Alethea’s faith-filled dedication, joyful spirit, and deep compassion make a lasting impact on the patients and families she serves. We are grateful for her heart, her calling, and the sacred care she brings to every interaction.
Congratulations, Alethea Jacobus, on being named Hero of the Month. Your work truly makes a difference, and we are blessed to have you as part of the Capstone family.
